ARTS CENTER solonohio.org Dance Class Descriptions CONTEMPORARY Level I | AGES 7 - 8 Level II | AGES 8 - 10 Level III-IV | AGES 10 - 16 Dancers will learn Contemporary, Lyrical and Modern dance while being introduced to choreographic concepts and various techniques. This class will teach students how to express emotion while dancing and learning to move in a fluid and melodic manner. Dancers will explore the qualities of released dancing while daring students to find qualities of stillness and explosion. All levels will be introduced to dance improvisation. Ballet is highly recommended as a foundation for Contemporary. HIP-HOP Tiny Tot | AGES 4 - 6 Level I | AGES 6 - 8 Level II | AGES 8 - 12 Level III-IV | AGES 12 - 16 Hip - Hop dance is based on a range of street dance styles primarily performed to Hip - Hop music or that have evolved as part of Hip - Hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles and made popular by dance crews in the United States. As Hip - Hop grew and evolved, a commercial, studio - based version of Hip - Hop; sometimes called "New Style"— and a Hip - Hop influenced style of Jazz dance called "Jazz - Funk" emerged. At SCA, students will learn the foundation of Hip – Hop, as well as its various evolutions. ACRO FOR DANCE Intro I AGES 4 - 5 Level I I AGES 6+ Level II I AGES 8+ Level III | AGES 10+ Level IV | AGES 10 - 16 Acro for Dance provides students with the opportunity to learn acrobatic skills. Students will explore different conditioning exercises which will increase their development of coordination, flexibility, and strength. Intro & Acro I do not require prerequisite skills. Acro II & up requires the following skills: bridge from standing, cartwheels right and left, handstand, backwards roll. Class placement will be held the first day of the session. JAZZ Level I | AGES 6 - 8 Level II | AGES 8 - 11 Level III/IV | AGES 12 - 16 Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility, conditioning, technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps. In this class, students also learn many fun and trendy dance steps that are used for all forms of dance. Students will learn choreography to popular and age appropriate music of today along with vintage styles of Jazz from past decades. Ballet is highly recommended as a foundation for Jazz. SCA WINTER/SPRING DANCE ENSEMBLE AGES 7+ Winter/Spring 2026 Dance Ensemble is an opportunity for SCA Dance students to focus more deeply on their dance education while providing additional performance and educational opportunities. SCA Winter/Spring Dance Ensemble will include age and level determined Saturday technique classes, workshops, rehearsals, and community performance opportunities. Additional weekly classes in other genres (ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and hip hop) is highly encouraged. Students who are interested in participating are required to attend Ensemble Placement Auditions.
